I don't want the "sleeping"

NSFW

I'm 25M. I don't think I'm particularly attractive in appearance but I've got lots of friends and people who come to me for advice or to confide in. I go for meals and walks with and have coffees with lots of people.

Never been in a relationship, never had more than one date. Literally I've been on one date. She asked me out. It didn't go well. At the time I was very insecure but now I look at that foolish 18 year old and think he missed a great opportunity. She's a lesbian anyway and I'm just a helping hand to her figuring that out, so clearly it wasn't a missed opportunity after all 😂

Anyway, after some consentual but unenjoyable (for me) experiences with people from a range of identities and sexualities during university years I realised I'm asexual. Sure for reproduction, I can do what must be done but I don't want it "for fun".

I've been happy in this life on my own but I don't think I want to get old on my own. I'd like a companion in life.

The issue is that, in my experience, when I tell people this (that I don't want to engage in sexual activity) they tell me I'm creepy and I must be a liar, or just insecure, all of which are obviously unattractive.

Dating apps are full of people who only want what I don't want. It's rather demoralising. Where do I find people that I can maybe develop that connection with? How do I find people that might be interested? How do I know if they might be interested?

Plus I'm sober so there's no chance of me going to a bar and approaching someone.
