Should I Wait for Him to Make It Official?
I met this guy on Reddit, and we hung out in person a week later. We kissed and made out on the second date, and things have been good since then. We’ve known each other for two months now. He’s been consistent, pays for our dates, and has told me multiple times that he likes me.
There’s no pressure for sex because we’ve discussed it, and he knows I’m not ready. We also both live with our parents—he’s 24, and I’m 23—so that’s another factor.
He finished uni a few months ago and is currently searching far and wide in my country for a job. He told me distance was the reason he broke up with his last girlfriend, so I don’t know if he’d want to wait if he ends up moving.
Subconsciously, I’ve noticed that I don’t entertain other men anymore because I’m already mentally committed to him. Anything else feels like cheating. But I also don’t want to waste my time on a man who doesn’t have my best interests at heart.
That being said, he’s shown me time and time again how he feels about me. He takes me seriously. Aside from the fact that I don’t know where we’re going, things are swell.
He’s the first person I’ve ever felt this way about. If I was sure he wanted to take things further, I’d allow myself to fully fall in love with him because I feel like I’m already at that point. But my brain won’t let me fall freely because I don’t know what his plans for us are.
A friend advised me to wait until my birthday, which is in three weeks, and see if he does anything by then.
From a guy’s perspective, does this approach make sense? Should I wait for him to bring up making things official, or is there something I should do differently? How do men typically think about making a relationship official?
