Democrats have a grand opportunity with whiskey
With the tariffs imposed we can win places like Kentucky and more broadly connect with voters over a tradition as old as American itself.. getting really mad about whiskey.
We all know the Whiskey Rebellion was the very first time an insurrection happened in this country over a whiskey tax... what most will not know is that the very first consumer protection act in the history of the US was to safeguard our whiskey with the Bottled In Bond Act of 1897.. yes, before we protected the quality of things like food and drugs, we ensured the quality of our whiskey.
So to get back to my first statement, Dems should be going on whiskey podcasts and such to talk about export markets and the value they have for our distillery workers and overall prosperity of a uniquely American product: bourbon. We can both humanize the Democrats by having then try bourbons and react in an authentic way, while subliminally getting the whiskey community on our side, which is ripe for the taking (like the right has infiltrated spaces like weight lifting and UFC)
My primary candidate to do this is JB Pritzker because he is trying to elevate his national profile, and because his company owns both Bardstown Bourbon Company, and Green River Distilling. They are smaller distilleries who have not, to my knowledge, broken into the export market (though they import oak for finishing) but that doesn't mean that a bourbon glut won't fuck them in a serious way due to downstream affects of larger companies flooding the American market. Some whiskey tubers and large whiskey influencers have their own brands that will get crushed if a glut happens as they can not purchase and produce spirits at the low cost of large distilleries. They will die in a glut, and we can exploit that conflict.
Kentucky is a winnable state with a pro-bourbon Democrat if this shit keeps up.. we just need to get our message out. Please help me urge the DNC to take action as Ken Martin clearly understands the need for a 50 state strategy and the need to connect with rural voters... I just doubt he is a whiskey geek like me so it's an understandable blind spot.
