Would you ever get back with an ex?

Say you dated for a year or two or more went on a break for at least a year if not longer, enough time to really fully distance yourself from the relationship, would you get back with an ex?

Obviously they would need to work on themselves as should you in that time apart, but is it even worth it? Is the past forgettable enough to the point it’s worth trying again? I’m sure it depends a bit on the circumstances of the breakup but curious how you would approach this
