Twitching for 27 years now

Thought I'd give some perspective from a lifer. I started twitching when I was 12. I still remember the exact muscle fiber that was my first twitch, and oddly enough it's only been a hotspot in that same place two more times since then.

Nearly every single muscle fiber has twitched in these 27 years. You name it, and it's twitched. Even the tensor tympani (tiny muscle inside the ear) has twitched before.

As I type this, I'm going on 9 months with a consistent hotspot in my right brachialis - my longest occuring hotspot that I can think of - and another hotspot that just popped up this morning on my thigh. I've had every type of twitch you can think of at all levels of intensity. I've had twitching fibers both close to the surface of the skin and embedded deep within the muscle close to the bone.

All of that to say, I've lived a normal life with this. I used to lift heavy weights in college, I've played sports well into my 30s, I love doing lawn/garden work, and in general I don't let the twitching get to me. At least in my case, I know that the hotspots will eventually end, and I'll have a decent period of time where I don't have any hotspots going at all. I have faith even this one that's been going steady for 9 months will go away. I figure my muscle has to be getting tired after somewhere between 9-12 million twitches, but who the hell really knows.

I know it's annoying, sometimes fascinating, and often frustrating that doctors don't study it to any significant level, but the best course of action is to just not think about it at all. All of your own personal research is incredibly unlikely to yield any sort of results.

I remember about 20 years ago there was this weird Russian TENS-like device that cost something like $3k. This one British guy was vlogging about that it helped cure his tinnitus and his twitching - eventually he disappeared and I can't even find any evidence online that his vlogs ever existed. There's been a handful of other theories and supposed cures along the way - all of them eventually disappear and you never hear anything further about what was probably just a scam job.

Just about the only thing that seems to work for myself is to apply a tourniquet, but shortly after removing it, if it's an active hotspot, I'm guaranteed to see twitching resume after about 5 minutes. Every once in a while it will kill the hotspot. Most of the time I just ride the wave and let it do its thing though.

For those experiencing a lot of anxiety or worry over this - try to do your best to get it out of your head. Perhaps yours will go away for good soon, I really hope that, but perhaps not. Perhaps there's an end to this for me, but I doubt it. Either way, the less I think about this condition, the less it seems to pop up. My best advice is get to the point where you almost never think about it.
