Almost definitely losing my job
I posted a suuuuper long version of this in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep, but long-story-short I was hired into a 3-year position and my 3 years end next month. I was told when I was hired that that was basically just a formality and these positions are always renewed, but I just confirmed with someone I know in HR that that's not the case. It's very involved, takes a long time, and my bosses would have told me about it if they were doing it.
My agency has a big budget crisis and I figure they probably decided I wasn't worth fighting for and are not saying anything because I could make a fuss. The only other person I know who was let go was only told the morning of her last day, when her bosses boss met her with a box for her things, so they probably want it to go the same with me. They know it's coming and they want to let me run out the clock in ignorance. I find that humiliating.
I guess I just need some emotional support. I don't feel up to telling my husband just yet, because when he knows I'm stressed, he gets stressed, and then he acts out in weird ways. He has a pattern of getting hyper supportive for a brief period and then kind of imploding. We're both in therapy and starting couples counseling tomorrow, but all of that is through my insurance from work. Our family of three is supported entirely by my income and insurance.
I've known this was possible for a long while but have been burying my head in the sand hoping and trying to convince myself it wasn't so because it feels so scary terrible. Now it's only a month away and the federal lay-offs and overall economic turmoil make it a terrible time to be a job seeker. I'm so sad and sick with stress.
