Considering Enlisting as a 15W to Become an Army Helo Pilot—Looking for Advice

Hey everyone,

I’m seriously considering joining the Army active duty with the long-term goal of becoming a helicopter pilot and making this a full career. I have a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and four years of experience as a computer engineer. My GT score is 103, and I know I’ll likely need to retest to qualify for what I want.

Right now, I’m thinking about enlisting as a 15W (UAS Operator) due to financial constraints, then potentially going Green to Gold, commissioning as an officer, and eventually getting into flight school. My goal is to become a pilot through the officer route, not Warrant Officer.

A few questions for those with experience:

  • Would enlisting as a 15W be a good move for my end goal, or would another MOS be better?
  • How competitive is it to get selected for flight school as a commissioned officer?
  • Would Green to Gold be the best path, or should I aim for OCS instead?
  • Any advice or things I should consider before making this decision?

I appreciate any insights or experiences you all can share. Thanks!
