Uber drivers as business owners

I wanted to get a sense of what this community thinks of an idea I've been kicking around. Essentially, as a professional, I've taken many uber trips over the years (conferences, office on-sites, etc.) and every conversation I'm surprised at just how much Uber takes from the fare (sometimes as high as 70%). Not only that but the working conditions seem, to me, to get worse.

Which seems, frankly, like bullshit.

In any case, to make this short, the idea would be to build an app where you all, the drivers, effectively join together as a collection of business owners. You set your prices, accept rides, rate riders, etc. just as you would Uber but with the app taking 0% of the fare.

Technologically I know this is possible because you can take advantage of decentralized technology (i.e. Bittorrent) making infrastructure costs very cheap (in fact probably very minimal unless there is some real scale). There is simply no need to keep track of the data at the scale Uber does because there wouldn't be the same commercial pressures they feel.

I would be willing to build this app, for free, as a software engineer with over 15 years of experience in extreme high-tech fields. Why? To quote Dave Chappelle "Because, fuck em, that's why".

My question to you is, as the people working with this day in and day out, what are the logistical hurdles to make this possible? You would effectively be doing your own taxes, as small business owners, and you would have to help advertise (grow word of mouth, print stickers, grassroots campaign the fuck out of it). Also, hypothetically, if there are technical costs the bills can be made public to all and you all decide how to pay them (again I think we can make this minimal but it'd be along the lines of $2000 a year, then you decide for one month each person pitches in 0.01% of their fare, so on you get the picture).

The benefit, to me, is that you would be setting your price and getting the money from your driving. So if you earn $4000 you keep $4000. Further, since you own the business, you'd get to decide if you wanted to pitch in together to have healthcare, to have a 401k/retirement/pension, help each other with car repairs, etc. From what I understand you already work together as a team and I don't see why technology itself should stand in the way of aiding this.

TL;DR. I can build the tech but I'd need your input about feasibility or if you'd even care about something like this.
