Any experience/tips for growing garlic?

Each year I try to think of something else I could grow to eat/cook with and not have to purchase from grocery store anymore or at least not frequently. Garlic came to mind, but I thought I would ask here if people have experience or tips on growing it.

I don’t have a huge space but typically grow 6 or so tomatoes, basil, peppers, sometimes snow peas.

If you grow garlic, would you say it is easy? Worth the effort? What kind of yield do you get? Storage-dark dry pantry? Are there other things that would make good growing companions or anything that should not be grown in the same area as garlic?
