Writing/research/reddit use

This account is pretty new and I’m having an incredibly hard time finding the correct communities, and then figuring out how to ask questions in a way that makes sense/ gets helpful feedback.

I’ve been working on a long term goal of getting my writing out onto a public platform, for context my main genre is romance and the sub genres mostly sci-fi, fantasy, or mystery/thriller and my main concern is the fear of finishing something and then it not getting great engagement.

So, with that in mind, where do I start? Are other people just writing whatever and then posting it without overthinking it a bunch?

Any advice is appreciated.
