Is appealing to bleeding hearts a way for a Vtuber to grow and be successful on stream?

From the looks of it, the most profits came from Vtubers who claim to have illnesses/health complications seems to have the most stalwart of support.

Might this be the new M.E.T.A or is it simply just a lightning in a bottle that content creators do to amass riches and be successful in the Vtubing scene?
