Looking to upgrade, need advice

I currently have an old d3400 with the kit 18-55, 55-200 and a 50mm prime. I was also recently given some old nikkor-H auto 85 mm lens.

I'm looking into upgrading to an intermediate camera, but am kinda confused by some things. I was thinking of going to with the d7500, but I guess mirrorless is the way to go now? I really only care about photos versus taking video so a lot of the advertising is lost on me.

Will the z50ii plus an adapter for my lenses be a good investment? Will I be able to auto focus the old 85mm or be able to use it manually still?
