Don Quixote?
I’m not a dancer, and I do not have connections to dancers, but I saw Don Quixote the ballet because it was available and I thought, why not. I hadn’t read DQ in a long time so I found a summary of the ballet online. It included a plot that I don’t remember happening in the book, with Kitri and the other guys but it seemed like there would be a good amount of DQ humor, and it has the famous windmill scene. Well I saw the performance and many of the scenes were in a completely different order than what I read, and even more were just completely cut. DQ was performing on stage maybe 3 times but he was mostly just sitting watching the performance! There was no windmill fighting or anything. What’s the point in calling it Don Quixote when it’s basically the Kitri show? Why even add those 2 scenes of DQ when it’s not even comedic, it’s just irrelevant? Is it just marketing because DQ is a recognizable name?
