(NC) Renting an RV, owner disappeared for over half a year

I have been renting a fifth wheel RV for a while now(since 2022), the lease was month to month and I was paying by cashapp. The landlord stopped sending reminders back in June and his cashapp stopped working, said I couldn’t pay this account going forward or something. Just today he started contacting me again asking if I still had the RV.

I’ve been on workmans comp waiting for surgery I only have about 4 months of the back rent and some change. I spoke with local law enforcement he said it might be considered abandoned since it’s more like a vehicle and not like an actual house.

I’m cool with getting caught up I just want to know what my rights are in case he shows up and just tries to take it. As I’m disabled and can’t move very quickly
