RX 6800 XT Overheating to 100°C – Fans Not Spinning, Need Help!
I bought a used RX 6800 XT Sapphire Nitro+ from a well-known and trusted seller in my area about 15 days ago. Everything was working fine, and I was happy with the performance until I recently noticed my GPU temperature hitting 100°C during gaming.
At first, I didn’t notice the temperature or that the fans weren’t spinning. I only realized something was wrong when my games started lagging badly, with FPS dropping to 35-40 at 1080p. In an attempt to fix the issue, I updated the AMD Adrenalin software to version 25.3.1, but it made no difference. Instead of troubleshooting further, I just turned off my PC and went to sleep.
The next day (today), I powered on my PC for a gaming session and faced the same issue. This time, I launched the AMD performance overlay and saw my GPU temperature at 100°C, which immediately raised concerns. I also noticed that:
My GPU fans don’t spin at startup.
GPU usage stays at 100%, but VRAM usage is only around 25%.
Zero RPM mode was enabled, but even after disabling it, the fans still don’t spin.
The GPU failed the TriXX fan test, indicating that the fans might not be functioning at all.
Since I don’t game daily (only every alternate day), I’m not sure if this issue has existed from the start or developed over time.
My System Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X
GPU: RX 6800 XT Sapphire Nitro+
Motherboard: X570 UD
RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
PSU: MSI 750W Gold-rated
If anyone has suggestions on what could be causing this issue or how to fix it, I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks!
