A brief letter/statement template for those of you with State Legislatures debating anti-gun laws

:post-discussion: discussion

We're running into new (though cloned) legislation year-after-year, so I thought I'd write up a statement from a leftist perspective for my reps. Please feel free to modify the statement below as needed, and post any constructive criticism in the comments.

To the members of the [COMMITTEE/HOUSE/SENATE].

I am a left-leaning resident of [YOUR STATE]. I am concerned that [BILL] will do exactly what laws like it have done in the past, target minority and LGBTQ groups. Laws like the Mulford Act of 1967, Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, and many other essentially duplicate State and Federal laws are designed to limit protection and otherwise imprison the aformentioned groups, even if no violent acts are committed. Spending our State budget on funding for health care, education, and infrastructure are far more effective ways to bring our crime rate down and improve the quality of life in our great State, all without sending more people to prison. I strongly recommend voting against [BILL]. Thank you for your time.
