Handling conflict- Validation

I learned this today from an argument my parents were having. Me and my father were sitting down doing prep work for an upcoming job interview I had. We were deeply focused and my mum in the middle of this passing by started being very loud and butting in without asking for consent to be apart of the conversation. Although her wanting to and trying to help wasn’t the issue her interruption meant me and my dad had to resettle back into the flow state. I said hey look I appreciate you trying to help but please don’t interrupt without asking first as I was listening to what you were saying whilst reading where as if you asked I’d have said one minute then could’ve given you attention not having to leave my task without wanting to. My dad on the other hand started saying ‘you need to leave the conversation you can’t just butt in when you want either come here or don’t’ my mum understandably became hurt and reactive and my dad got triggered they argued and I told my dad VALIDATE HER!! She wanted to help and she should have interrupted but that doesn’t mean she didn’t come from a good place! But no he didn’t. In the end her apologised but it was only to her her to stop shouting and getting worked up and she knew that so she kept going on. I then said hey no one’s saying they didn’t appreciate the help but please just ask next time that’s it. I didn’t offer a solution as I just wanted to work and my mum was in and out so very obviously not wanting to fully engage anyway, but yeah that was my lesson. I hope the story helped you guys.
