Why is this game so addicting? [Vent from spouse]

Hey! I am a gamer but I don't play Maplestory.

In the past year, I have been studying for a big multistep medicine board exam, which my partner has supported me through (cooking, chores, emotionally etc.). Make no mistake, he is amazing for doing that.

He spends 2-7 hours a day playing maple story daily. Pretty reasonable because I am super boring, just studying all the time anyways. Additionally, he gets to socialize with his friends on this game. I socialized with my medicine friends through gaming as well.

Over a year ago, he spent a lot of effort and time taking me around different places trying on engagement rings. Dead silent on that front for a year. I mistakenly thought he had ordered a ring and was planning on proposing soon. To surprise him, I have been planning my own proposal and ring (which I was going to whip out sometimes after he does his thing). Also I have been trying to pay for the majority of food/dates this past year to help him save expenses because rings are expensive. I told him I want a cheap ring less than 600$, but if he doesn't get me a cheap ring, I want to pay for the whole wedding by myself (should be doable if I pass this exam).

Feel free to laugh at me, because today I JUST found out he does not have a ring. There is a concept of a proposal and a ring but it is not happening soon. This is not a problem either. I will happily postpone my own surprises. The whole thing about rings, proposals and weddings is a cash grab anyways.

Since I just found out today, I was a little bummed and disappointed. I hoped he would come by and spend some time with me. But he really couldn't because him and the boys are fighting the bosses tonight (let me see if I can get the names right, Vilhalla (sexy goth chick), Seren (Blood guy with armor), Dark Knight.. or is it Darknell? And some others).

I chose the wrong day to ask because any other day of the week he would have come over for sure, just not on boss night. I was wondering why this game is so addicting? Even though I am pretty enthusiastic every time he tells me about Maple story, to be honest I have been wondering this for a while. It looks like he is just on the same map teleporting over and over, hitting the same monsters?
