Scared of submitting for RA: can they fire me for submitting one?

As the title states, can there be retaliatory actions for submitting an RA? I have extensive medical documentation from my doctor and I am certain she would be willing to write a recommendation.

Any thoughts from someone that actually ran into issues after submitting an RA?
