Submitting DS/Optional essays after application?

Applied to some schools without a diversity statement, which I have since written.

I know sending in Why X's/LOCIs after your app has been submitted is a common/accepted practice, but what about supplemental essays? Will it look sloppy/lazy, or be seen as a welcome addition? Given how competitive this cycle is I'd like to give myself the best chance possible even at safety schools.
