Thought Experiment: Is an American-Free Tech Stack Even Possible?

With the recent political turbulence coming from the US, my colleague and I started discussing a purely hypothetical scenario: Could you build a complete tech stack without relying on American companies?

At first glance, it seems almost impossible. For the sake of this thought experiment, let’s allow open-source software, but the goal is to eliminate reliance on major US-based tech giants. Here’s what we’ve considered so far:

  • Endpoint OS: A dedicated Linux desktop OS might be an option, especially with Proton’s translation layer improving compatibility.
  • AV/EDR: ESET seems like a solid non-American choice.
  • Networking: TP-Link comes to mind, but since it’s Chinese, that raises a different set of concerns.
  • RMM Software: After some searching, I found NetLock RMM as a potential option.

Has anyone else explored this idea? What viable alternatives exist? Would love to hear your thoughts!
