Hairdressers always so rough on hair when brushing??

It feels insane, I spend months trying to look after my hair and then your hairdresser seems to have no respect or care for your hair when brushing??? We are told your hair is weakest when wet, so why do they brush out your hair like they hate you?? I've had 4 different hairdressers in my life and they've all been the same. I'm just sitting through it thinking how much hair they must be pulling out ( my 3 hair strands I have that is, so im even more precious about it). Am I being too dramatic about how damaging it actually is or should I just stop going to hairdressers?
