Potential fix for PC players with issues with an AMD Graphics Card
The Issues:
Since Monster Hunter Wilds launched two weeks ago, I've had my fair share of crashes on my PC. I've crashed when the game launched, crashed in the middle of fights or NPC conversations and even full blown crashed where my monitor would go black and my PC would restart with no explanation other than "Hey, there was a crash!".
After all those headaches, I even tried troubleshooting with suggested methods online such as setting the game to run as administrator, turning off any semblance of overclocking on my CPU and memory, adjusted the game to only play on the lowest settings and even tweaked the config.ini file. Despite all of this, I was still left with unexplainable crashes and the game was practically unplayable.
Now that I got all of that out of the way, here is what fixed all of my issues.

The "Fix":
My PC specs are as follows:
- Processor (CPU): AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- RAM: 64GB
- Graphics Card (GPU): AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
- AMD Driver Software: Adrenalin Edition v25.3.1
AMD requires that the "AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition" be installed in order to update drivers for my card. I assumed the application would set all settings for my specific card right out of the gate, but only to my surprise, I was very wrong. After stumbling through the performance settings, I discovered that the Adrenalin software had set my "Max Frequency" to 2935 MHz, which according to AMD's website, was WAY above the recommended frequency for default and boosted settings.
So I went ahead and updated the value to the expected frequency (2300 Mhz for my 7900XTX), restarted my PC and lo and behold...NO MORE CRASHES. I have not had a single crash in over a week, on max settings and here are the steps I went through to achieve this.
Follow these steps:
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
- If you need to update your drivers to the latest version, do so now before making these changes. I am on latest version v25.3.1 as of 2/25/2025.
- Navigate to the Performance tab
- Under the Performance tab, navigate to the Tuning section
- In the Tuning Control section, click on the Custom button under Manual Tuning
- Toggle on GPU Tuning
- Toggle on Advanced Control
- This is the point where I noticed the frequency was set to 2935 MHz
- In the Max Frequency section, enter the Game Frequency or Boost Frequency as mentioned on the AMD website for your card.
- In my case, it was 2300 or 2500 MHz as labeled on the 7900XTX product page: https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/desktops/radeon/7000-series/amd-radeon-rx-7900xtx.html
- Click Apply Changes on the top right
- Restart your PC
- Try to launch Monster Hunter Wilds
That's it! I really hope this helps someone out there with similar issues trying to run the game.
If anyone has any more solutions for other AMD related issues, don't hesitate to comment! Happy gaming! <3
