People ignoring car seat safety (in other countries)
I have friends and family who live in a certain region of the world where car seats aren't taken seriously AT ALL. I frequently see pics/videos of their daily lives on private social media accs and group chats.
Wtf! They ride around with babies on their lap because "baby cries in the seat". AND the adult holding the baby is often not wearing their seatbelt.
Or, 'even better', baby in seat by themselves but straps off (bc uncomfy). Or straps on and buckled but so loosely that it won't even slow down baby's flight in case of a serious MVA.
I'm not even talking quiet suburb or rural roads. No! Freakin highways!
And they're so nonchalant about it! On numerous occasions, I've politely said something like "hey this is kinda really super fking dangerous", and they'd be like,
"hahaha don't worry, Name is a good driver; we've always done this and nothing bad happened with our first/second", or
"I've never heard of an actual child being killed in a crash specifically due to not being in the seat; if it's a bad one, they'll die regardless", or, MY FAVOURITE,
"ah it's okay, the fine for no seat is only X money, no big deal".
🤬🤯
Pisses me the F off. I get it, many of us grew up like this and never had anything bad happen to us. I, for once, never had a car seat or a booster, and seatbelts were just a decor piece in our cars. IT DOESN'T MEAN IT WAS ALL SAFE AND GOOD. We were just lucky.
I've tried comparing the stats for infant/child mortality in MVAs and how it relates to whether the children were buckled in properly, in their region vs. North America. It's not easy to do a direct comparison, but from the numbers I was able to gather, it's very obvious that proper car seat techniques DO safe lives.
They don't give a F.
Rant over; thank you for your time
