Preamp has died, suggestions for reconfiguring?
So up until recently I’ve been using a Kenwood KD-12RB turntable and an Audio-Technica AT-PEQ30 as a preamp (it’s labeled as a “phono equalizer” — I am not sure what the difference is, but it has functioned well enough as a preamp for me). This is then fed into my Yamaha R-S201 receiver, which does not have a phono stage.
So I’m curious to hear what folks would recommend for moving forward. I could:
- Replace the preamp, nice and simple.
- I’ve been planning to upgrade my receiver anyway. I could get one with a phono stage.
- Certain functions on my turntable have been getting finicky, so I could replace the turntable with something containing an internal preamp.
Any suggestions? Thoughts on pros or cons of the three options? Any would be fine in my opinion, I’m just curious what others have to say before I buy anything.
Thanks!
