Decompressing after trauma clients
Hi y’all, I’m an intern working in CMH and have my first child client that’s experienced sexual assault. I have my self-care routine that works most days. I find it much easier to separate work when I’m working with adults, even when they tell me graphic details of their trauma…but hearing it from a child is really taking a toll on me. After I see them, I usually end up crying in my car most of the drive home, and I’ll think about them for days afterwards. I see my own therapist, get supervision, and have been trying to take care of myself, but this is really throwing me for a loop. Any tips? Tricks? Personal stories about how you manage? Thank you in advance ❤️
