Tips please

I'm still somewhat new to rivals and was wondering if anyone can give some tips for some match ups. Right now im breezing through ranked but struggle a bit whenever there is a star lord on the enemy team. When trying to 1v1 I just lose whenever he uses the move that shoots everywhere. whats the counterplay to him? should I just avoid him?
