Deciduous teeth

General

I need reassuring that I made the right decision on not adopting a kitten due to a potential issue with deciduous teeth.

We were this close to adopting a 5 month old kitten today but when we were going over his health history, it was noted during his intake exam that he may have an issue with his teeth that would require possible extraction in the future. I fell in love with him at the shelter but after learning this we left without him because I wanted to do more research. Turns out this is not something pet insurance would cover and when I called to the local vet's office, they said that tooth extraction could run into the "thousands" and it's something I need to consider before adopting him.

Does anyone else have experience dealing with this? I feel like I'm overreacting to something that was only cited as a "potential" issue.
