Is it safe to buy a laptop with an Intel CPU?

I'm looking to buy a new laptop and I have my eye on the Acer Predator Helios 18. It's powerful specs wise, but I remember the recent controversy about Intel CPUs and crashing. I know manufacturers have been pushing out bios updates but I don't know if it's safe for Intel CPUs to readily be considered for long term use. I don't want to spend a couple thousand dollars on a product that'll likely end up damaged.
