Hearing troubles in left ear from fluid

Physician Responded

I, a 6’2” 24 year old male, am currently experiencing an issue with hearing out of my left ear. To make a long story short, I recently go sick with whatever sickness is currently going around and experienced a lot of congestion. As I began to show signs of improvement I began to have issues with hearing out of my left ear. I thought I was ear wax buildup and tried an earwax removal kit to no avail. Went to urgent care and they had told me that I have fluid buildup behind my left ear but does not look infected. The NP prescribed me some antibiotics just in case it does become infected and also advised me to take pseudoephedrine to help assist with drainage. Fast forward to yesterday afternoon where I began to experience server pain in my life ear. It was unbearable and began to spread to the left side of my face. I picked up the antibiotics and then took them. I also took some left over pain medication from a surgery as the pain was causing me to loose sleep and was unbearable. I also started to lose my hearing at that point. Fast forward to this morning where I have lost a good portion of my hearing and am now experiencing a constant ringing in my left ear that doesn’t seem so go away. I’m about to loose insurance benefits and won’t be able to see my PCP for about a month. I was wondering if it would be wise to go back to the urgent care or if I could seek medical attention at the ER. I’m quite concerned with how this is progressing and I’m not sure what to do at this time. Thank you!
