Indecisive nightmare - how to pick a ring style?

I'm a very indecisive person. Engagement ring shopping has been no exception. I have such a hard time understanding what feels like "me". Despite being 30 years old I still don't have a good sense of my own style, what I like, what reflects my personality.

So anyway. For the past year or so, I was sure that I wanted a solitaire ring: a 1ct diamond in a very low profile, 6-prong, claw prong setting. However... about two months ago, I saw a kite-cut salt and pepper diamond ring and I'm just enthralled. I can't stop thinking about it!

The classic, timeless solitaire is still calling to me, but now the kite-cut salt and pepper also has a chokehold on me.

I guess I'm just looking for advice. How can I figure out what kind of ring I actually want? My very loving and patient partner wants to start shopping for a ring soon and I don't know how to pick!
