Dumb question about Hexie Quilts

I’m starting a long term project where I take the scraps from my quilt of valor quilts, but 1-inch hexies, and make hexie flowers. Eventually, my goal is to turn the scraps into their own quilt of valor.

Most tutorials I see for hexies involve hand stitching them, and so the guidance is to stitch them around a cardstock and then whipstitch them together.

I was just planning on machine piecing them when I had enough to do a few flowers - is there a reason this is a dumb move? Need someone to tell me now before I cut my whole scrap stash wrong and have to come up with another idea 😂
