Gamma problem on Nvidia cards still a thing?

Currently running an AMD card because I tried an NVidia before that (around 4 years ago, middle-class) and I was experiencing an annoying bug, where the gamma value would be set very high when starting a game. When alt tabbing or quitting the game I would need to get to the driver settings and reset the value every time. I googled it and found quite some users affected by the same problem but sadly no working solutions. Now I wondered if anybody here knows if this is still a thing or if it has been solved for good.
