I would tolerate my ex’s misogyny and cruelty towards others - does that make me a bad person

I had an extremely misogynistic ex -boyfriend, and I struggled with guilt during our relationship because I would tolerate the stuff he would say about women. Especially their appearance and intelligence… their weight, body hair etc… and I have long considered myself a girl’s girl so this was hard to deal with. He once made a loud comment about someone’s weight while we were on public transit and I just felt so much shame bc i couldn’t, wouldn’t, call him out on it. It also affected my own self-image because this was someone I loved who clearly only valued a certain type of woman. The relationship is over but I think about what kind of person that makes ME, that I stayed through so much cruelty towards others and never said anything. I know one of his female friends once called him out on being misogynistic but I never had the strength to do the same.

So I’m wondering am I an accomplice to that kind of behavior by staying silent? Is someone like that ever capable of truly changing?
