Gave birth, had a bilateral stroke. Cerebral edema (high ICP levels) and induced coma.
I’ve searched the web for a situation like the one my sister is in and would like to see if anyone has been through anything similar and survived it. The doctors are being so negative about the outcome but my family and I are by her side, hopeful and ready to go on the journey with her no matter how long it takes.
She gave birth, two weeks after she had a bilateral stroke and has been in an induced coma for the past 2 weeks. She had a bolt surgically placed in her head to read her ICP levels. Week 2 she had dangerously high spikes (30-70) and had another surgery where the surgeon removed blood from one side. 2 days after the surgery, those numbers started to stabilize. It’s been 4 days and the space between those spikes have increased. So most of the time her ICP is between 4-15. Once in a while it’ll rise to 23, for example between 5:30am-5:30, her icp was mostly between 5-12 but 2 hours ago it spiked to 23.
The doctors say that if the swelling doesn’t decrease then it’ll push down on her brain stem. They also said that she will at best be disabled for the rest of her life.
My family and I have decided we are going to take care of her and make sure she lives the best life she could and we are taking what the doctors are saying with a grain of salt.
Doctors told me I won’t heal my voice after going through a vocal injury and I’ve fully healed from it after 4 years so I don’t like when they provide such definite negative answers.
Writing to see if anyone has experienced a dangerously high ICP and can you please share your story? What helped u? And how far into your recovery are you? What issues are you facing and how long did it take for you to recover? Recovering?
Thank you for your time in advance
