TL;DR: Fellow had his 2009 Honda Repsol with 2600 miles stolen.
The thief contacted him claiming to be VINCENT S CRIDER of the US Army with fake Drivers License and fake Military ID. Seller had an accomplice call the Seller claiming to be from chase letting him know they were cutting a check and the call appeared to come from Chase's 800 number.
The thief appears at midnight (sketchy right?) to collect the bike. Seller makes copies of the thief's ID's and insurance paper work. Seller also takes a photo of the plates on the car with a family inside... The plates later come back belonging to another car.
Seller calls Chase to confirm the check is legit but since it's midnight there is no answer... Against the Sellers better judgement he hands over the title without signing it and the thief and family are off.
Edit: Vincent Crider is a good id to assume he appears too easily in google search results...
Edit2: Apparently the seller actually talked to the real Vincent C. and his IDs were stolen while he was at the gym a few months back.
Some people are just genetically disposed to be victims, I'm afraid.
Two men learned something valuable that night.
Yeah, my selling policy is cash in hand face to face or Fuck you.
If they meet me at the bank to cash the check in front of them that's fine too.
I'd even accept a wire transfer.
I can reverse a cheque 6 months later and get my money back. I wouldn't but scammers can and do.
Reverse a check or put a stop payment on a check? Once its been cashed I can't imagine a bank would be able to take the money back from the other bank for no reason.
Cash only! No checks unless we are at the bank. Not to mention the guy came over at midnight? Wtf is that about? This screams scam from the jump.
With children no less. The kind of people that involve kids in there shitty dealings are the worst kind of people.
