Least popular read of March?

Discussion 💬

It’s that time again (in which I struggle every month to find the words to describe my question) what are your least popular reads from this last month?

Up to you to figure out the metric first least popular. Could be by reviews, Amazon or good reads or StoryGraph. Or just a general awareness that you found something that isn’t discussed much here.

Doesn’t matter if it was good or not, let us know what you thought, and try to avoid spoilers.

For the last three months I’ve done this I’ve had a Celia Lake book in the mix and it’s constantly been the least reviewed on StoryGraph. So I’ll just say, I read another one from her because it’s a perfect cool down type of book. I’m going to be holding her work for emergencies from now on.

I also mostly read science fiction but for fantasy; discarding my love of Ms. Celia:

{Beneath the Earth and Woods by Kacey Thiele} has a whole 8 reviews on Story Graph. I liked this book until its second half. And even then I still liked it, I just think she messed up the stakes a little. The climax of the center of the book had more substantial consequences than the ending climax, sorta, not really but that’s how it felt. If she flipped it, I’d of been more invested throughout. Still an ambitious debut - My grandmas grew up hearing similar stories so it was fun to have the monsters of my childhood in a book.

{The Crown of Fractured Darkness by Laura Winter} this is a bit unfair to add because I suspect it’s going to be quite popular; it’s just newly released and a big book at nearly 800 pages. I’ve been recommending this series all over this subreddit the last few months and have been looking forward to its final book. That said, to me, and my personal tastes, I didn’t love it. The FMC starts out powerful and competent, and to have a series have a rewarding end, when the story starts with an exciting encounter where she beats up a shadow wolf - you go big right? Problem is when it’s big, the characters can’t really spend time together and the found family was a big part of what I liked. It also had like, fuck, ten or so epilogues? I like a good epilogue, maybe even two or a special edition version but damn. Just wasn’t for me, but I bet a lot of you will love it and I’m stoked for you to read it.

I also finished beta reading a book that I’m so excited to tell y’all about. But I can’t yet. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So what about you, what are your hidden gems of the month? Make sure to tell us how you decided on what to share!
