Terminated Revolut card

I used my revolut cards in gates and at night I frozed them but the revolut charged me anyway with the subway tickets, but my friend did the same but for him the subway transaction is was canceled and the revolut did not charged his acoount. Why is that that for somebody this trick works and others not?
