Thoughts (and Prayers)
I know this is going to TICK a lot of people off but I just really need to get this off my chest.
What KIOF did for their recent livestream was objectively wrong. Hip-hop culture might be a concept to them (knowing how South Koreans really like categorizing cultures and aesthetics into "concepts") but it inevitably is part of the history and expression of Black Americans. It literally is racist of them to cosplay into racial stereotypes ignorantly, it doesnt matter if they meant no harm or what. There is no excuse for their behavior.
On the other hand, we should also acknowledge that KIOF is under overwhelming amounts of hate. Which is honestly weird to see. It got me thinking about the possibility that if this were a boy group, the backlash that they would be receiving wouldn't be this large. Because, let's face it, a lot of boy groups tend to get inspiration more on hip-hop rather than girl groups.
Another thing that irks me is the weord hipocricy of some people I have seen on twitter. They call out KIOF for using the culture of the black american community and using racial stereotypes to ignorantly portray a concept at the same time, do the same time do the exact same thing but with East Asian cultures. It is not a majority, but it is an observation.
KIOF should do better in the future, especially knowing that they have members who SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, but the amount of hate they are receiving just seems unnatural. Of course, everyone's emotions are valid and they have every right to take back the support for KIOF, im just pointing out some observations I've had with this entire controversy.
PS. You may disagree with my opinion and I acknowledge that. Everyone is entitled tp their own but please refrain from throeing violent threats to each other if it ever comes to that. Thank you!
