My boss wont order enough food (advice needed)
So I work in a small-ish childcare center that is owned by a school district but pretty much runs itself. The kids are served school lunch that gets delivered by the school. The childcare center assistant director is in charge of ordering an AM and PM snack. In my state each child must have 1/2 ounce of grain or dairy and 1/2 ounce of fruit or vegetable served at snack. Licensing requirements also state that the kids must have seconds of grains, vegetables and fruits available. That seems pretty straightforward to me. You can easily multiply # of kids by 1/2 ounce then double it to find the amount of snack to order. My boss consistently is not buying enough snack. And I mean every day. Today for instance she ordered 1 16 ounce bag of pretzels and one jar of pickles for 40 kids 🙃
Because this is an ongoing problem (and I’m talking like 6 months of this being an issue) I’m looking for advice on how to handle this. I’ve talked to the director who has had many sit down meetings with the assistant, I’ve tried walking her through the math myself. Every week she says she’ll improve, the director told the assistant director straight up to order as much as she needs and they can recalculate the budget and increase as needed. Director at this point just seemingly gave up?? Ultimately nothing changes and these children are just not being served enough food.
Recently I’ve been measuring out and taking pictures of snack and I guess I’m just wondering if there’s any other avenue I should try before just reporting the situation to licensing? Has anyone else ever had this problem? I served my children 5 pretzels and one pickle slice today and almost cried…
