Reasonable Accommodation for temporary medical issue
Has anybody done an RA recently for a temporary medical issue? Especially if the request is telework? I'm DoD if that helps
I have a tailbone wound from surgery 4 months ago that is healing extremely slowly and sometimes getting worse. My wound care doc is throwing everything they have at it, but I have an undiagnosed collagen defect hindering formation of healthy new skin. It's fragile enough now that any movement (walking, crouching, bending, etc) is causing the wound to tear a bit larger.
I'm supposed to offload as close to 100% as possible, which means I can't sit at all except bathroom breaks and driving to work. The problem is, due to the same collagen defect, my feet and ankles are not able to hold me standing for 8 hours a day. I'm quickly losing mobility to the point that in another week or two, I might literally not be able to stand.
I have a sit-stand adapter at my work desk, but what I really need to do is go back to my post-surgery routine of working on a prone position at least half the week. Aside from worries of being out on a list for firing, I'm concerned they're going to deny the telework accommodation because I have a sit-stand station and no official diagnosis preventing standing for long periods. If I keep going like this, it's projected to not heal for several more months, but if I can offload in a sustainable way the doc thinks maybe 2 months could do it.
Anybody had success or rejection lately? Advice on how to proceed?
