Mesalamine response

Has anyone experienced fluctuating results with mesalamine in terms of calprotectin levels or symptoms? Or is it supposed to provide steady improvement the longer you take it? I’ve been on it for five months now, and my calprotectin levels have been all over the place—anywhere from 60 to 1700. I’ve also been on and off steroids, which I assume are what’s actually keeping the inflammation under control. But as soon as I stop them, the inflammation seems to come right back.

Obviously it seems mesalamine is not working, but I am curious to determine if 5 months is enough?
