My parents support my dream, but what if it turns into a nightmare for them? *Vent*
I'm eighteen ( nineteen on the 21st ) I'm writing a book. A full-length novel. Not just some of my measly poetry or shorts but a full-fleshed story with characters, a plot, and a message I am desperate to send to the world. This started as a therapy project to work out my trauma. My parents and my counselors are all giving me grace and time to finish my first draft. They said what I'm working on right now is the most important thing I'll ever do in my entire life because it will change generations and break our own generational curse.
They're literally buying me a PRINTER AND PRINTER INK for this book. ( We can barely afford groceries. ) They bought me a brand new computer. My therapist ( who isn't religious ) is dying to read the book. They're all supporting me.
The problem?
I haven't graduated high school yet due to medical issues, traumatic experiences ( lol ), and a few learning curves. I don't have a job. ( I did, but it was seasonal ) I literally don't do ANYTHING but write all day ( which I've had permission to do...but ). I feel like a failure, and I'm scared if this book doesn't produce fruit ( not money-wise, but in regards to reaching people's radars and touching their souls ) that, all of this will be a waste of time.
All of my other siblings have jobs. My little sissy, little brother. They're all good at math. They all have set futures going for them. I'm just a girl sitting on a couch typing away words that could prove to be meaningless and I am terrified I'm going to let my family down.
They're pouring all their effort, money, and love into supporting this project.
I'm not sure what I want to do with my life. I know I want to be a B-K teacher. I know I want to go to college, but right now? All I can do is eat, sleep, and breathe this book. I don't know what I'm going to do when I graduate this May ( or sooner if my mom gets the diploma )
Do I continue to write until x amount of drafts are done? X amount of revisions? Pour more of my time into something that may never fly. Or do I jump into the real world and leave this all behind even though I've already spent EVERY DAY from sunrise till sundown writing since Feb 17th?
I just feel like once I get a job and go to college, my spark will be snuffed out. But I also feel like the longer I spend on this book, the more people will judge me and compare me to my siblings and other kids my age.
End of vent.
