Leave beverage for food service?
Got my CDL A at the end of last year and have been applying since then to local home daily gigs. 2 weeks ago a local alcohol distributor hired me on and I’ve been in training but I just had a phone interview for Gordon Food Service delivery. Trying to decide what to do and looking for opinions.
Alcohol job: $25/hr guaranteed $1000 a week ≈$52000 a year 4 day work week Tues-Friday 4-6am start time Routes designed for 10 hour day Driving 42 ft trailer to gas stations, convenience stores restaurants etc. Lift gate and electric pallet jack
Gordon Food Service: Guaranteed $1100 a week Case pay, stop pay and mileage pay ≈75,000-85,000k yearly told by recruiter 5 day work week Mon-Fri 4-6am start time Driving 28 foot trailer with ramp and dolly
The alcohol job is alright so far. I came from furniture delivery so the manual labor isn’t too bad. The first week I trained in a trailer with a ramp and it makes a huge difference having a lift gate and pallet jack for deliveries. The 4 day work week is nice too but seeing how much food service pays is making me consider jumping ship if I get offered the job with Gordon.
Anyone have any insights into which you think sounds like a better option? Would you take the food service job or stick in out with beverage?
This is my first CDL job so I’m still learning about the industry, I would like to eventually get into LTL or fuel but looking to get some experience first. But I am also looking for day shift and no crazy long 60+ hour weeks which I know is already slim pickings in my situation.
