Smells in the nursing homes

I'm a nursing student who just started clinicals and I am struggling so hard with bowel smells to the point I was gagging which is not good or professional. I ended up double up masks and pumping hand sanitizer in between the two bc if my nostrils are burning I'm not focusing on smells and it helped but again the burning isn't great.

One of the nurses who was laughing at me (in good humour) suggested Vicks.

Am I just stuck doing this any time I have to change their brief/do peri care or is there a better option?
