I've never liked any job I've ever worked, and I barely make enough to provide for my family

My parents only suggested and supported going to college. After three years at three different colleges I only had enough passing credits to be a sophomore.

To me, traditional college extended childhood and left me dependant on my parents. I never fit in socially, and the social aspect was 90% of college life.

I worked day labor and bs jobs until I was 26. Then I joined the military to ride out the 2008 recession. I stayed in the reserves and got low paying "real" jobs, but for 15 years I change jobs every 3 years on average.

I wish some one, any adult, would have helped me find a 2 year program for medical tech, or trade school, or enlightened me on any of the other career options in the world.

I'm not dumb, I just needed to be able to goto class, then go home and chill. Not goto a dorm and be surrounded by people, or goto a dining hall and eat alone surrounded by classmates. ( If you know, you know)

Now I'm in my 40s and it feels too late. I have kids and living expenses. It's a hamster wheel that doesn't provide a break.

For the love of God, show your kids all that the world has to offer for opportunities. Coach them through their fears, and realize that the jobs landscape may be vastly different than when you chose a career.
