[KY] I playfully kicked my little sister and now my mom wants to sue me.

I (21m) was visiting my parent’s house last week for my little sister Morgan’s (14f) birthday. Her birthday was the 4th, and she had a big family dinner on the 3rd.

During this gathering/dinner I was sitting on the couch talking to my grandma and my sister came up and demanded that I go to the store and get more punch because we ran out. I said for her to wait a second and she punched me. It didn’t hurt and it seemed very much like she was messing around, so I kicked her in the shin. She screamed and collapsed to the floor. I was shocked, as I barely even tapped her when I kicked her. My mom came sprinting over and picked up Morgan. Then my dad started screaming at me and told me leave. I didn’t wanna argue and cause an even bigger scene so I just left. I ended up staying in a hotel that night because my college is 6 hours away, and by the time I got to my dorm it would’ve been 3:00am with traffic.

Anyway, fast forward to now, my mom wants me to pay for the “hospital bills”. I don’t know if they actually went to the hospital, but if they did the doctors probably laughed in their faces. But now she’s walking around with crutches and a big brace claiming she has a broken leg.

My mom is trying to get me to pay her $50,000. When I tell you I almost fainted when she told me that number, I’m not lying. Apparently that’s to cover the medical bills, and “emotional trauma and distress”. Not only is that the most idiotic thing Ive ever heard, I don’t have anywhere near that amount of money.

When I said I wasn’t paying she said that she was gonna take me to court and sue me for “all the damages I’ve caused their family”. I’m not sure what to do now because 1) I don’t have a lawyer, nor do I have the money for one 2) I don’t want to have this end up as an assault charge. I’m in med school and if I get arrested for assault I’m gonna lose my scholarship and then I’m totally screwed.

If you have any advice on what I should do please let me know because I’m at a total loss. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
