Feeling stuck in my current role, what are my options?

First post & writing from mobile so apologies it’s lacking anywhere.

For context: I was the lucky applicant a few years ago that my boss took a liking to while starting his recruiting agency. I bought in & helped build everything from scratch- process, tech stack, internal/external documents, defined responsibilities, etc. I’ve helped interview, hire, train & administered benefits for new hires all while being our primary recruiter. We’ve exclusively focused on SaaS companies, but have recruiting anything from a front line IC to c-suite.

I used to love my job. Every day was a challenge & every role was exciting to work on. But, we had a tough year last year & we’re forced to reduced our headcount to a minimum. Our company outlook was questionable when the year started but we’ve landed a few clients to improve our stability. Regardless, I’m still dreading work most days of the week… i could go on about the laundry list of things that have me feeling this way but i think that would take away my objective here.

With 3.5 YOE recruiting SaaS at my current role & 1 YOE recruiting travel doctors previously, i feel stuck in agency.

I’ve been interested in internal recruitment/TA & HR generalist roles but have had limited success. What recommendations do you have to break into this fields? Are there any other career options that i should consider instead?

Of note: my partner & I are expecting a son this summer so I’m a bit selective atm. I have the ability to stay in my current role as long as i want but would love to find a new fit by the end of this year if possible
