Start your project as soon as you're ready (not as soon possible)

Lessons Learned

This is kind of a personal story but I hope someone will benefit and find the motivation to start building something from this.

I wanted to start a newsletter for so long, yet, I never started it. I thought of different ideas: at first I wanted to talk about cryptos, then I went for productivity and self improvement. No matter the topic nothing changed: the days passed by and I had no newsletter working on.

Until when one day it clicked: I remember I found a topic that really interested me (I share SaaS business ideas devs can build) and next day I had my beehiiv account set up and running.

What changed? I just took action.

The difference with all my previous attempts is that before I used to spend weeks or even worst, months brainstorming features and ideas and possible improvements when I didn't even have one.

Also, when I started SoloCodeVenture I felt actually ready to take this. Why? Because instead of brainstorming stuff in my mind I started researching infos about newsletter and how that world actually worked. This gave me the basic knowledge I needed to get out there and start building.

And now? Now it's 4 months that 240+ people receive an idea breakdown in their inbox every Friday and I've finally made my first € online (€68, nothing crazy, yet it feels amazing every time I think about it). It takes time, it's a long journey but I'm so proud about it and that's all that matters for the moment.

So, if I can give you a tip (coming from a guy who spent countless hours brainstorming and detailing ideas in his notes app) - pick a relatively strict time frame (for example give yourself 1 week to do the followings): find an idea that really interest you and you'd be ready to do the stuff for years to come, think and write down the most simple yet working version of the project, make your researches on the topic and gain the knowledge you're missing to get started and then be brave enough to start it.

Also, don't follow all the people saying "just ship it", "start that project" because while it seems cool, if you actually start the project, then you'd need to keep going and if you were not ready in the first place you'd end up stop working on it after just 2 weeks. And one thing is certain: once you start it, you can't quit until you make it.

Good luck everyone
