Line of credit insured against home and inheritance.
My father recently passed and my mother currently owns the family home. My mother and father had a home equity loan against the house for 22 grand. Now that my father has passed and my mother doesn't make much, it's unlikely it will be paid off in full before her passing.
The house would be inherited by myself and my brother and sister upon her passing. They say you're not responsible for debt for another's debt upon someone passing, but in the case of this debt secured against the home, would we be responsible for paying off the home equity loan? If we didn't pay, would the home be seized? What if we paid off the primary mortgage to the bank/lender?
